Rolled canvas is good if you have a large piece you are shipping and plan to have it stretched or framed at the final destination.
Wrapped canvas is a finishing option that is “good to go” out of the box. You can hang it up right away, no frames or fuss required. However if you are interested in framing – we do that too and would be happy to help you!
Smaller sized canvases (up to 16″x20″) are fine on stretcher bars .75″ – and that size stretcher bar will give you more options if you are planning on framing your art.
Larger than 16″ x 20″ canvases that will not be framed should be on 1.5″ stretcher bars or larger. We stretch many that are smaller on 1.5″ and it is a more finished look. But larger, they need to be that size. There are still many choices for framing – especially “floating frames” which is a style often used with canvases where the frame doesn’t interfere with the face of the artwork.
Chunky 2″ stretcher bars are a fun look – and now we are in to a subjective area. We often create canvas clusters and change the depth of the stretcher bars to give it more of a 3D flowy feel.
